BS: What are the technical changes?
DB: At the moment - there's been some changes recently - one thing they've - in some of the shows um they use these ABCD cards where they get the young people to vote on certain things. One of the things that they have, just ordered is a voting system, one of these electronic voting systems, which then you can feed into the PowerPoint and all this sort of thing. That's one thing that will happen.
There's a lot of changes involved because at the moment, you may notice, if you've seen a show, we have one controller for operating the PowerPoint we have another controller for changing things over, they look, they priced up a system - at the moment they're looking for the funding for it - but they priced up a system to - so, at the press of a button basically, it'll do everything it does now, but at the press of the button, it'll automatically go through the PowerPoint it'll automatically go on to the next stage. So, if the next part of the presentation, is to show a video, you press a button the video'll come on, the lights'll go down everything'll be set ready for it. So, rather than having to use a number of remote controls, what they'll do is they'll have one remote control one button, which makes it easier. When people have been in there for a while, if something goes wrong you don't panic, you know. Or, if you can't remember which controller to use you don't panic because you, you know, you can work your way around it. But for new presenters, especially when they, they've got to learn a new show and they've got to do the presentation, the last thing they want to have to worry about is picking up, deciding which remote control to pick up, which buttons to press, and for each piece of equipment you have to use you have to press 2 or 3 buttons. If you want to play a video you have to select the video, you have to press select then you have to press the button for the video then you have to press play. So to play a video you have to press 3 buttons. With this new system, you press one button then the lights - and you've got to do the lights as well, so, it'll all do it in one for you rather than having to go through all these different stages. And that'll operate the, lights on the bar round the top as well so it'll operate everything in there. So it'll be, really - the whole show can either run as we do now, by pressing but- pressing buttons for each thing, because we get an int- external speaker coming in, you don't want to have to write the computer program for it, you know, just for one evening. But for a whole show what they'll do, it'll all be up on the PowerPoint. And when you go on to the next slide of the PowerPoint that'll actually tell everything in the Science Theatre what to do ready for you so you don't have to worry about switching the lights down and starting the video off. So that's the next thing they're planning in there.
