BM: What would you say are the strengths of how Techniquest (communicates science) and the weaknesses you might see?

CJ: The strengths of the means of communication?

BM: the way in which you have put together Techniquest as a place which communicates science, what are the strengths of that and what are the things that could be improved on.

CJ . Well, the strengths are, are to do with the fact that - we, we research and resource what we offer to a very high level. The, the investment of - of intellectual power - and money in what we provide by way of exhibition and education programmes - is considerable. So what comes out of the other end, however well it happens to be delivered on the day by the presenter or, the whatever, but what comes out of the other end is, is a very sophisticated product. And I mean it is, is done by people with a lot of commitment and a lot of commitment to high standards. So there's the strengths.

The weakness are of two kinds. One is that you can't do everything. And so, some areas we do quite - thoroughly and broadly and other areas we're not in a strong position to touch. And secondly, that you can't do everything equally well And in the end it's down to human beings. And some of our human beings are people who have to learn their trade and they get better as they go on so not all of them's as expert as the best. But then, one of the features of this organisation is an awful lot of people have, as it were been brought, brought on in different ways. Whether it's people who've - been formally trained through our Masters programme or whether it's people who've - worked their ways through different roles in the organisation, and have gained experience and confidence in doing so.
