1. We go to TQ for our first day of familiarization. At the front desk, we are asked to fill in a visitor's book and given a sticker to wear. While waiting for Claire in the café, I jot down casual observations:
The tops of the coffee tables in the café are red, blue, green or yellow - TQ's "off primary" colours.
The café looks onto the bay. There is a crane outside.
The sound of the children playing in the exhibit hall reminds me of a swimming pool.
One of Techniquest's trademarks is a lopsided question mark.
2. Claire arrives, flustered. She has just finished performing in a Science Theatre show. She was not expecting us to just turn up, and says that if we want access to the backstage areas we need to give her at least two days warning. She doesn't seem to like the idea of us just wandering around the backstage areas. She is happier when we suggest that we "shadow" people.
3. We agree to send her an email outlining what we want to see and do in the upcoming week. Claire suggests that we look round the exhibition hall.
4. It's 2pm. Most of the children have gone, and there are now just a few visitors wandering around. The main exhibit hall is well lit. The sun shines through a large glass, South-West facing window. Bruce and I spend an hour taking photos.
5. We move through the exhibit hall to the low light area, where we take some more photos.
