Introduction and warm up

The mic picks up Jean 's voice again, she is telling Emma to be firm with the group as they come in. The music begins to play. The children enter the theatre and Jean guides them to their seats. Jean hands out feedback forms.

Jean introduces the show. She asks the children if they saw the Queen. She asks the children what "Pushes and Pulls are and two children attempt an answer. LS.
Stunt Monkey
Jean introduces the 'TQ Stunt Monkey'. The camera zooms to a MS. Jean asks if anyone knows how she can move the monkey.

A child comes on stage to pull the monkey. The camera zooms to MS. Jean asks for a different way to make the monkey move. Another child comes on stage to demonstrate. Jean sums up.

LS to MS - Emma places a monkey on the stage floor. The monkey zooms past the banana. Jean interacts with the audience and explores different ways to control the monkey on the skateboard. The camera follows the movements of Jean and the monkey.
LS - Jean explains to the audience that the monkey wants to move without anyone touching him. She asks for suggestions. Someone suggests the wind. She blows on the monkey. Someone suggests that she blows harder, but Jean says she is out of breath.

Jean asks for ideas. One child suggests a flag, and another a sail. Jean attaches the sail to the monkey. Jean tries to blow again, and when a child in the audience suggests "more air", she picks up the hairdryer.

Using forces to change the shape of things

MS -Jean asks -what happened to the foam? The children attempt to answer. She interacts with the audience. The children return to their seats. Jean sums up: "A force can changes some things shape".

Feeling pushes and Pulls

LS. Jean and Emma demonstrate how to feel a push. The camera zooms to a CU of Jean and Emma's hands.

CU- Jean and Emma demonstrate how to feel a pull. They link fingers together and tug bank and forth.
The toy shop

MS - Jean sums up the changing shapes section, she then intro the "toy shop". Jean shows the audience the hand movements for a push and a pull.

Jean brings the rocket onto the stage. She pushes the base and the rocket flies off. She blows the air from the base of the rocket at one of the children, to demonstrate that the pushing force was air. The audience countdown & Jean sets off the rocket again. MLS

Jean paces up and down the stage as the video plays. She guides the children through the video, encouraging them to identify pushes and pulls. She acts out some of the pushes and pulls shown in the video segment.

MS - Jean tries to blow the wall of straw down. Because of the angle of shot it looks like she is trying to blow the wall of bricks down.

LS - Jean brings the wall of twigs to the centre of the stage. She says: "I'll huff and I'll blow the house down." She uses the hairdryer to blow the house down. She points out the wall of sticks is harder to blow down than the wall of straw."

LS - Jean points the remote control at the powerpoint. She says: 'huff and puff' etc , and the children join in. She tries to blow down the wall with the dryer but can't.

LS- Jean asks for ideas for how to knock down the wall. She takes suggestions from the audience.

LS- Jean kicks the footballs at the wall. Jean : 'it wobbled but it wasn't fast enough'.

LS- Jean : 'Is there anything that you have seen before that did move quite fast?' Some children in the audience suggest 'the skateboard" other suggest "the magnet'. Jean pushes the magnet into the wall. Some children ask her to do it harder.
MLS. Jean puts the hat on the stunt monkey. The children giggle. She pushes the skateboard into the wall - but it doesn't fall down. The children start laughing and talking, and their teacher tells them to settle down. The noise dims. Jean pushes the monkey into the skateboard for a second time. Jean emphasises that we needed a big push to knock the wall down.
Bakery

MLS- Jean introduces the bakery. She goes off stage and the camera zooms to a shot of the bricks.

Jean and Emma bring the bakery table onto the stage.

Jean asks for five "bakers." MLS. In the foreground we see lots of hands. Six children come on stage and stand behind the table. Jean puts hats on each of the children. The hats have labels which read: "twist", "stretch", "pull", "squash" and "push".

Jean puts the dough on the table. She explains to the audience that when the first baker has the dough they should shout out five times: "twist, twist, twist," then "bing", they should repeat this for stretch, pull, squash and push. MCU

Jean stands at the end of the table with the sixth volunteer. Together, they pull the conveyer belt. Jean thanks the children and they leave. She lifts up the tray with the dough to show them that the shape has changed. MCU
The song and the end of show

LS - Jean picks up a lollypop from the stage. She tells the children that they are not allowed to bring lollypops.

LS - Jean introduces the TQ song. She switches on the music and the tune to drunken sailor begins. Jean sings the song with the children. The camera moves between LS and MCU.

Jean introduces the final exercise. She asks the children to pull there hands apart slowly and then push them together. She tells them to get faster and faster. The sound of clapping can be heard and Jean says "why thank you".

Jean concludes the show. She directs the children out of the science theatre. Jean gives the teacher some activities to photocopy.
