Wow Theme: spectacle

BM: I was wondering what kinds of things you have around at the moment, like shows or exhibits that you think are high on the wow factor. The Bernoulli Blower, seems to be almost [iconic for Techniquest]=

HF: [yeah]=

BM: =But I wonder about other things you've got on the go.

HF: What are the things that we've got at the moment that are wow? Oh ((laughs)) [It's so difficult]=

BM: [It's hard to say]=

HF: =Yeah when you see it everyday it's so difficult. Gosh, I think - it sounds - even the planetarium has wow factor. You know, if you've been in there when the lights go down at the end and you can see all the stars, every time you get a "Ooooh" you know, you get a reaction from the audience just by - just by showing the stars inside you know - as they would be on a clear bright night. So and I think every show tries to have something that's got a bit of wow factor. I mean the Slime Show that's just finished is a classic, you know. It's just full of wows because it just shows lots and lots of weird and wonderful slimes so you know, if you're talking about shows then yeah, there's always got - and there's you'll find a show will have a - grand finale as well - trying to get a bit of wow factor in. At the moment TechnoTunes has the grand finale of just having - a bunch of people come down and try and, you know be a bit of band kind of thing. Which - is not wow factor in the sense of showing something amazing and weird and wonderful but it's wow in the sense that it creates a nice atmosphere and people go out going "oh yes I remember that" and you know, and off they go.

As for other exhibits - that's a really tricky one - trying to run through them all in my head - can't think of anything else that's really - astounding. Things like the ants always, because they're living things. Anything that you can watch and peer down on always ºcreates a bit of "Ahhh" you know. So, mmm.º
