BS: Coming back to the present now. The job that you're doing now, what does that entail?
ER: Right well, the - things that go on for public programmes are basically anything which isn't done for schools. So, so anybody who visits TechniQuest which doesn't have anything to do with an organised school group. So it could be a school that's down in Cardiff for, for a week doing a - an outdoor course, away from school, and they come in on the Saturday. Or it could be Brownie groups, it could be family groups, it could be WI groups. Just anybody who visits TechniQuest without being an organised school group. All the kinds of things that we provide for them in addition to the exhibition. So - the programmes such as the planetarium shows, science theatre shows, the workshops that we run in the lab, if we run any busking activities on the floor. The discovery room. They all come under - public programmes events.
We also do things externally. So maybe, somebody will say "come to - certain event" - such as Tomorrow's World Live the Eisteddfods that go on and it's initially - initiated then by marketing. But then they involve public programmes. So all of those activities come through our team. Which is initially 3 of us. Louise Ecclestone works part-time 3 days a week. I work full time 5 days a week and Heather Frost is the public programmes manager and she also works 5 days a week. So the shows that go on. We come up with the ideas we research a show we develop the ideas we write the script we then train the presenters we present it ourselves.
So that's - the whole kind of spectrum really - of the kind of jobs that we do. It also means that on a weekend I work Saturdays. So I work Tuesday to Saturday. Sunday and Monday are my days off. That means that on the weekend which is obviously our busiest time for public - that we have people here who are - kind of the line manager to the presenters. When they're not presenting, then they have the supervisor as their line manager. But when they're actually being presenters, then if anything goes wrong, we we can help. We evaluate - them just and encourage them and talk about how we can improve them and - ºsomebody answer the phone.º Also if somebody phones in sick it means that we can cover that area. So - I do that on a Saturday and Peter does that on a Sunday. So we we - in essence can present in any of the areas and problem solve.
