BS: How does the relationship between imagination and science work?

((pause))

SB: It's it's important - because that's how - that's how we would make sort of develop a theory about something first of all and then we've got to test it. So having a good imagination - is important for a scientist. Having a good curiosity is important and, I've never really thought about it. Children are very good at it. They come up with some wonderful explanations for things. It doesn't matter if they're not right. Yeah I think it's important. I I - as long as it goes further than just the imagination. Otherwise that's not science. It's make believe ((laughs))

BS: So there's a line there's a point at which?

SB: You've got to have some evidence. You've got to look for some evidence. Imagination - you could just make up all sorts of things, couldn't you. But that wouldn't be science. That would be the starting point to make, to formulate a question. And then, you've got to go and prove it. So, that's what I think. ºI haven't really thought about it before.º
