BS: So just to summarise then, how would you describe the role of science?
DS: I think I would see it as - a - it's a kind of method of investigation - in discovering things about the world. And it's gen- traditional science is generally about discovering things that - are regular? So the - if you see a regular pattern - then you can say that there's some kind of law or force at work. And - traditionally that's how science has gone along, you know, people have done - observational experiments or whatever and then - tried to describe that in terms of maths or modelling whatever, however they - try it. And then from that learning more about - what's going on? I don't think science ever, ever answers - why - really. It it answers how. If you know what I mean.
