BS: Back to the exhibits, I'm thinking particularly of It's electric, what kind of brief do you give people in the workshop?

BS: Like with some - exhibits - say the Scalectrix for example we'd worked out the size that it needed to be, I'd done a drawing so when we came to make the cabinet we just went in and spoke to Bob. He has a lot of input over uh - how the cabinet's going to work because he he's the one who's going to make it and he knows what works and what doesn't work. So, we, basically gave him the overall dimensions but said and gave him some specifications in terms of right we need to be able to access inside and um - this is the height that this, the handle needs to be and this and that. But he then said right well I'm going to make it in 2 bits I'm going to make it like this, I'm going to- the best way to do that would be to do it - and I'll, I'll (notch out that) to make it light. You know, so he'll - give all that kind of thought to it and - basically translate your requirements into the actual thing because he he'll think ( ) actually how he's going to make it.

And the same is true of kind of - Derek's been doing a lot of work on the the actual exhibits turning up stuff and making the generators and that. And again I gave him a drawing with overall dimensions but he said, oh you know, I - I'll use M-8's because that'll be sufficient to hold that together or, that kind of thing. So, they've got a vast wealth of experience and technical knowledge in terms of actually uh the best way to make things. So although - we'll say "want it to look like this. These are the dimensions". They'll have a lot of kind of, they might say, you know, "actually I don't think that's going to be strong enough" and so there's a lot of, kind of - discussion and iteration, iteration goes on a lot anyway in design process.
