BS: So what would you say then is the relation between art and science?

DS: I - the kind of the thing that I'm thinking about is - not - is - I've - because, I've kind of - talked to you about how science has different - people have different views of science within society. And that's true of art as well. So the problem when you mention science and art in the same sentence is the fact that - people have different ideas about what science is different ideas about what art is. So when you mention them together they're like they could be thinking of anything, when you say that. So in terms of trying to - get the concept, get a concept which people - can - relate to and sort of latch onto I'm thinking more about visual image and the science behind the visual image. And when you you think about it in terms of that, then you start thinking about, ok the science behind painting the science behind photography the science behind, even say photocopying or computer images, then suddenly you think oh yeah actually, you can do a lot around those themes. So I think I'm thinking like that. But I'm trying to steer clear, not not that's it's actually a really great subject but the moving image, and sort of animation and cinema and all that kind of stuff. And the only reason I'm steering clear of it is that it's been done before. Television and film and all that has actually been done a lot, so, I - would like this exhibition to be much more about traditional art. And even more traditional and not contemporary art, if you know what I mean. because I'm talking about you know, painting and stuff and actually what people - think of when they think - like that.

Yeah but in the future you could obviously include cinema and television and moving image and animation and all that kind of stuff if you wanted. But I just think if you you included it in that level then, you'd just end up with a load of exhibits about that, because it's the kind of way everyone would drift towards. "Oh yeah, let's have" you know or "we'll use Out of the Blue." "And we'll use Animate It" and "we'll do all this stuff." But actually I'm thinking much more in terms of exhibits about colour, exhibits about light exhibits about perspective, exhibits about geometry - optics - physics and maths and things like that. So - more that end of the scale of things.
