BS: . . . How would you describe Techniquest?

DS: Sometimes it depends on who I'm talking to. If there's somebody who - comes from South Wales - I normally wouldn't have to describe it, because they, if you've grown up here you know it. Somebody - outside - of - the area that would know - who - what Techniquest was, I would, often have to describe it as a science museum. Not because, we're not a museum but it's the only way that they, I can get them thinking about the type of place that it is. Because if you say science centre if somebody hasn't visited a science centre they tend to think it's to do with scientists, in a lab, somewhere. Doing kind of research, or something. So it's easier to get across to them that it's actually a visitor attraction - yeah, I suppose I'd do it like that. Or and if I know - where they're from, I tend to link it to the nearest science centre to them.

Often if you say to people "Oh it's like the science museum in London but like their interactive gallery but we're all like that." So it's finding something that people can latch onto. So I suppose, I would describe it badly, by saying it's a science museum because the people here would get very upset about being called a museum. but only to latch people onto - thinking in the right way and then I kind of go on to explain - that we have lots of interactive exhibits. And our aim is to, encourage people to - enjoy science and see science as something that they can do, rather than this scary subject that's just for clever people, or something like that.
