BS: You were saying that some people say science isn't for them. What do you think defines or what contributes to someone - I mean what types of person would be attracted to science and what types wouldn't?
AS: I don't know, you know that's really hard isn't it because - I think - people feel a bit threatened actually if you know about science because I went travelling and I travelled with a friend who's a - used to be fashion designer, and when they asked her what's she do she said a fashion designer and then they asked me and I said - um - I'm in research and they immediately looked back to her and said "So, what - where've you worked?" and this sort of thing. And I think people felt that maybe - maybe - not threatened because you know because this is in a social thing. Excuse me. But just maybe that it was going to be too difficult to understand so they didn't ask me. Now don't get me wrong, I'm more than happy not to talk about my work when I'm out but you know, without fail people very rarely said to me you know "what're you working on" and you know, because I think they thought that maybe science was just for people who were really clever and I wouldn't either I wouldn't be able to explain it so that they could understand it or that - or that you know, maybe they weren't interested. Which is fine as well, you know. But
